February is Career and Technical Education Month in Michigan
State Rep. David Martin today led the Michigan House in adopting a resolution to declare February 2023 as Career and Technical Education Month in Michigan.
Martin, of Davison, said providing real-world training to students in Michigan schools sets young people up for success and ensures the state economy can remain competitive. More than 106,000 Michigan high school students enrolled in career and technical education programs during the 2021-22 school year.
“Career and technical education programs train students in the skills they need to land high-wage careers in high-demand fields,” Martin said. “Young people benefit by landing good jobs that don’t require the time and cost of a bachelor’s degree, and the state benefits from a skilled, sustainable workforce that attracts employers.”
More than 529,000 skilled trades job openings are projected in Michigan each year through 2028, with a current median wage of nearly $59,000 for skilled trade jobs that do not require a bachelor’s degree.
