LANSING, MICH – The Michigan House of Representatives on Thursday voted in favor of tax cuts for small businesses centered around delivery and installation. In addition to tax cuts for small businesses, the House voted overwhelmingly for more oversight on the Michigan Strategic Fund by adding two Republican appointments – all measures supported by Rep. St. Germaine:
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and in the current economic environment, where everything is more expensive, they continue to struggle,” said Rep. St. Germaine, of Harrison Township. “It’s time we deliver relief by removing unnecessary government restrictions that make it more expensive for them and more expensive for all of us. That’s what Thursday was all about.”
House Bills 4039, 4137, and 4253 would clarify Michigan law and exempt delivery and installation services from sales and use taxes if the charges are listed separately from the product on an invoice. HBs 4054 and 4055 would also clarify that sales and use taxes do not apply to industrial processing equipment used on aggregate materials, such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, and recycled asphalt.
In addition to the bipartisan bills passed that provide tax relief for small businesses as well as relief from unnecessary burdensome government regulations, the House of Representatives voted to increase oversight on the governor’s corporate handouts. “Our state government is spending billions in corporate handouts and taxpayers want oversight,” added Rep. St. Germaine. “I proudly cast my vote in favor of more oversight on the Michigan Strategic Fund.”
