Northern Michigan legislator to chair incoming Republican Caucus
State Rep. Ken Borton will serve as Republican Caucus chair in the Michigan House of Representatives beginning in January.
Borton’s colleagues in the caucus yesterday re-elected him to the position for the 103rd Legislature — the 2025-2026 term. As caucus chair, he will play an influential role in helping lead caucus discussions about key policy issues.
“House Republicans are committed to restoring balance to Lansing through common-sense policies focused on limiting government spending and helping families navigate through the broken economy we aim to fix,” said Borton, R-Gaylord. “The voters sent us back to Lansing with an unquestioned authority to stop radical liberal policies in their tracks and put the state on the right track. Over the next two years, we’re committed to showing Michigan families the overwhelming positive impact that quality Republican leadership can have on their everyday lives.”
Elected to his third two-year term on Tuesday, Borton will represent the 105th District, which includes Crawford, Otsego, Missaukee, and Roscommon counties and parts of Antrim, Kalkaska, and Oscoda counties.
In his second term, Borton has served on the influential House Appropriations Committee, where he is the minority vice chair of the Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources Appropriations subcommittee and as a member on the Transportation and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and Insurance and Financial Services Appropriations subcommittees.
