State Rep. Jay DeBoyer has proposed new legislation honoring a military hero from Chesterfield Township.
House Bill 4154 designates a portion of M-3 in the township as the Senior Chief Petty Officer Jason P. May Memorial Highway.
Born and raised in Chesterfield Township, Officer May bravely served in the United States Navy for 18 years. He passed away unexpectedly at age 38 in June of 2015 while aboard the U.S.S. Essex, an amphibious assault ship which served in part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
“Freedom isn’t free. Our military heroes continually put their lives on the line to protect American freedoms and ideals,” said DeBoyer, of Clay Township. “It is only right we further honor Officer May’s memory and his service through this dedication. I am incredibly thankful for all the courageous men and women who are serving and have served in our armed forces.”
The Michigan Memorial Highway Act was enacted in 2001 and allows for the naming of bridges and highways within the state. HB 4154 will be referred to the House Transportation, Mobility and Infrastructure Committee for consideration.
