State Rep. Rylee Linting today testified on her plan that rolls back regulation to help aspiring professionals and drive more job growth in the state.

Linting’s House Bill 4895 would soften existing rules from the state’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to allow continuing education for licensed occupations to be completed remotely.

“Online education is a convenient option and gives people the ability to get this done from anywhere,” said Linting, of Grosse Ile Township. “Michigan should be a top state to live, work and raise a family. But for many entrepreneurs and job providers, red tape stands in the way. Right now, getting an occupational license in Michigan means filling out time-consuming paperwork, paying recurring fees, and often sitting through in-person continuing education classes. We can make this process more practical for people by giving them more options, and my bill will help drive that change.”

Michigan law requires continuing education for licensure every two years for several professions, and these continuing education requirements come with varying credit hour thresholds. Under Linting’s bill, any online program would still need to be vetted and meet state standards.

The plan is part of a wider package of bipartisan reforms that address unnecessary regulations in Michigan impacting families and workers. HB 4895 remains under consideration in the House Rules Committee.
