State Rep. Pat Outman (R-Six Lakes) welcomed Montcalm County Commissioner Jack Johnson, who is also Deputy Chief of Operations for the Grand Rapids Fire Department, to the Michigan House of Representatives’ annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony in the House chamber on Thursday.

The ceremony included the ringing of a fire bell in memory of every first responder and public safety officer who died honorably in the line of duty throughout Michigan in the past year.

During this annual tradition, legislators invite first responders and members of the military from their communities to be their guests for the service.

Johnson’s tenure with the GRFD began in 1998. Throughout his years, he has served the community through various roles within the department. In 2022, he ascended to the role of Deputy Chief of Operations, where he now oversees the comprehensive activities of the Operations Division.

“It was an honor and pleasure to welcome a local hero and public servant to join me today,” Outman said. “We can’t thank our public safety officers and first responders enough for all they do to keep us safe. It’s a fitting time for this ceremony as we continue to remember and honor the heroes who responded to the tragic attacks on America 24 years ago today.”
