Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) cast his vote in favor of House Bill 4001 and 4002 for a second time on Thursday, as they officially passed through the House of Representatives exactly two weeks following their introduction. As a member of the new Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses, Robinson helped get the bills reported out to the full chamber for a vote.
“We only have less four weeks to protect our small business and tipped workers from the disastrous changes that are set to go into effect,” Robinson said. “Restaurant workers and business owners throughout the state need these bills and they need them now.”
The two bills, which protect tip wages and restore reasonable minimum wage and paid leave requirements respectively, now move to the Senate for consideration. The two bills would need to be passed by the Senate and signed by the governor prior to February 21st to stop harmful mandates for small businesses from becoming effective law.
“I am proud to have seen this project through from start to finish as a member of the newly formed Select Committee. Republicans understood the urgency and we acted.” Robinson said. “These bills are now bound for the Senate where they will face another vote. I urge each Senator to consider the needs of the small business in their communities and vote yes. It would be a massive win for Michigan if the Senate followed the example of the House and sent these bills to Governor’s desk.”
