St. Germaine named vice chair of natural resources and tourism committee
RELEASE|February 3, 2025

State Rep. Alicia St. Germaine will serve as vice chair of the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee during the 2025-2026 term.

She was appointed to the position on Thursday by Speaker of the House Matt Hall.

The assignment is a perfect fit because St. Germaine is working on legislation to protect Lake St. Clair and other waterways from combined sewage overflows.

“I’m thrilled – this assignment very much fits with my district because I have so much of the shoreline,” said St. Germaine, R-Harrison Township. “We need to make sure our natural resources are being properly taken care of.”

St. Germaine also said she is excited to work on tourism issues because Lake St. Clair is home to one of the biggest fishing tournaments in the United States, and recreational boating is a huge part of the local and state economy.

“Everyone knows I’m a boater, but I’m also an avid snowmobiler and off-roader, so I’m not just familiar with tourism in my district but all over Michigan. I love that stuff and hope to be on the snowmobile trails this weekend,” St. Germaine said.

St. Germaine will serve on three additional committees

In addition to natural resources and tourism, St. Germaine will serve on three additional committees: the House Education and Workforce Committee, the House Health Policy Committee, and the House Economic Competitiveness Committee.

St. Germaine said that she is particularly excited to serve on the education and workforce committee because her daughter is an elementary school teacher her son is in the trades – HVAC heating and cooling. Her husband was a school resource officer.

“I raised two different kinds of learners, so I see the need for traditional education as well as more hands-on training,” St. Germaine said. “And I feel like I can give a different perspective as a lawmaker on the education committee because I’ve been with my daughter throughout her education process as a student and then starting her career as a young teacher.”

St. Germaine also said she wants to work on getting a school resource officer in every school, and she wants to find ways to equip teachers and administrators with the tools they need to help students who are struggling with mental health issues.

For the House Health Policy Committee, St. Germaine said she hopes to work on some of the ideas that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been talking about in terms of making sure our food systems are healthier.

“We have too many chemicals in our food,” St. Germaine said. “We need to help Make America Healthy Again.”
